Can the female athlete triad be prevented or avoided?

There are things you can do to prevent the female athlete triad, especially if you are at risk.

  • Get a moderate amount of exercise.
  • get plenty of rest.
  • Find ways to reduce stress.

treatment

Treatment involves correcting this imbalance of energy consumed by the body and energy intake from foods. This is done either by increasing the calories in the diet or by reducing the calories burned by exercise for 12 months or more. To be more concise, athletes are advised to simply eat more and exercise less to keep the body functioning. Women can also seek help through treatment from pharmacies. To induce menstruation and improve bone density, doctors may prescribe cyclic estrogen or progesterone as is used to treat post-menopausal women. Patients may also be put on oral contraceptives to encourage regular menstruation.

Without treatment, the female athlete triad can cause long-term health problems. When combined with low body weight, it can even lead to death.
